Togethered / By Alan Epps

I wanted to write a short poem
To tell you I love you
But I wasn't sure how to say it
Thought it was more important to display it
Because we know words are cheap
And action is real
If we want to let a person
Know how we feel
We should show it
A lot more than we should say it
After so many years
I came to understand that love includes appreciation
It's one of the things
That cannot suffer depreciation
If I appreciate
You know that I care
And, if I care
You know love is there
So I'll dispense with the words
And pull you towards me
So you have no doubt
I would never ignore you
Because we only ignore
What we don't understand
And I implore you
To give me a hand
In paying attention
And sharing appreciation
It's the only way
To bridge the egregious separation
That pervades an arbitrary space
That we characterize as a nation
Never forget that gratitude
Merely from the presence of another
Is a most righteous attitude
And it is the glue
That brings a whole world together
A universal tether
You know we could live
Forever togethered.
